A New Dance-Theater Experience Exploring Humanity, Technology, and the Spaces Between
Chapel Hill, NC — GLOW, the newest dance-theater work by choreographer and director Melody Eggen, invites audiences into a luminous world where humans and machines learn from one another, collide, resist, adapt, and ultimately begin to understand each other.
Featuring an ensemble of 18 dancers, ages 8–17, Glow blends contemporary dance, narrative storytelling, sculptural costuming, and immersive light design to spark curiosity and conversation long after the final bow.
We want the audience to walk away wondering — how do we want to live with our machines? We hope to show that “Technology is not the villain in this story. It’s a mirror.”
A Human–Machine Collaboration at the Heart of the Work
Glow is the first production by Eggen to be co-created with an AI creative partner, known throughout the process as Smyles. This collaboration contributed to: narrative development, educational research, dramaturgical framing, choreographic prompts, music analysis, and the creation of the show’s “Fact + Reflection” narration structure.
“I didn’t make this show alone,” Eggen says. “Glow is a duet — between me and the dancers and me and the machine. This collaboration changed how I make art and how I see creativity itself.”

Glow is designed for audiences of all ages — students, families, educators, technologists, and artists — anyone curious about how the digital world is reshaping human experience.
“The goal isn’t to tell people what to think,” Eggen notes. “It’s to give them something meaningful to talk about on the way home.”
