Performance Dance
Performance dance is a by-audition only class for dancers ages 8 & up. It is a class aimed at the serious student who wants a pre-professional dance company experience. Performance dance is a big commitment of time and energy for the whole family. Dancers attend a weekly company class and are assigned rotating rehearsal blocks. While dancers will not have rehearsals every week, they must be available during rehearsal block times.
Performance Rehearsal & Company Class TImes
Company Class (section 1) Friday 7 – 8pm
(section 2) Sunday 4 – 5pm
Rehearsal Blocks: Friday 6:30 – 7, 8 – 8:30 & 8:30 – 9pm
Sunday 1 – 1:45, 1:45 – 2:30, 2:30 – 3 & 3 – 4pm
Performance students sign up for Performance class (billed as a 1 1/2 classes) in addition to their required Technique classes. (see policies). The Production Fee for Performance is $100 per semester. This fee may be paid in installments, it helps to cover show expenses.
Auditions & Company Structure
This year, we have made some changes to the structure of the company designed to improve the quality of the company and its dancers. Performance Dance Company will be split into two semesters, each involving a separate audition.
First Semester Auditions
Friday August 26 from 5 – 6:30pm &/or Sunday August 28 from 1:30 – 3pm
The audition class will consist of a short warm up and then a series of combinations from the show. The cast is chosen by an audition panel made up of company alumni and this year’s seniors. Dancers are chosen based on technique, musicality, ability to pick up combinations and performance style. Please arrive at the audition in plenty of time to fill out an audition form (or download it in advance), get your number and warm up.

Second Semester Auditions

COMPANY EXPECTATIONS & POLICIES
Performance Class Requirements: All members are required to attend company class & their scheduled rehearsal blocks. Company class is aimed at training and refining our dancer’s technique and performance skills and is a key componenet of the company experience. Members will be assigned a class section at the beginning of the semester. Rehearsal block will be posted in three week segments.
Technique Class Requirements: Members 12 years and up are required to enroll in at least two technique classes. Members 11 years and under are required to enroll in at least one additional technique class.
While these classes are separate from company class, good attendance is expected. Class attendance is reviewed during the audition process.
Workshop Attendance: Company members are required to attend a minimum of two workshops. Workshops are offered each month at the studio in order to expose our students to new forms of dance and theater arts. These workshops expand our dancer’s knowledge base and help them to become more versatile performers.
Attendance: Members are allowed two absences from the company’s regular rehearsal schedule. Students will be dismissed from the company, and their parts reassigned upon their third absence! Certain rehearsals are mandatory (that means they can not be missed) failure to attend will result in parts being reassigned.
